Winter Reds Release: The 2022 Vintage is here
Introducing our cabernet sauvignon driven red wine trio – this year all from Red Mountain. 2022 is a fantastic vintage for our Lonely Heart, Old Vines, and Water Witch. These wines display the heights of our winemaking and each represent a different connection to one of the most important AVAs in Washington State. Lonely Heart is a meticulously crafted selection from our favorite barrels. Water Witch showcases a single block that we custom planted at Quintessence Vineyard, and is the effort of years of planning a world class growing site. Old Vines reflects our dedication to the exceptional fruit from Red Mountain, sourced from vines planted in 1998, the year before our founder Mark received his first grapes from Red Mountain.

2022 Lonely Heart
The 2022 Lonely Heart is a single-vineyard cabernet sauvignon from our custom planted blocks at Quintessence Vineyard on Red Mountain. The foundation of the blend comes from our block 9 cabernet sauvignon that was planted in 2010 with clone 191. Grapes from this block produce wines with bold, fruit driven aromatics and expansive, rich flavors. When working with such extraordinary fruit we strive to elevate and support its unique qualities without obscuring the profile with heavy-handed winemaking techniques. Our goal is to allow the amazing qualities of the fruit to be freely expressed in the finished wine. We hand-selected oak cooperage to enhance the innate beauty and power of the wine without overwhelming the aromas and flavors.

2022 Old Vines
The 2022 Old Vines cabernet sauvignon honors two of the oldest and most well-respected vineyards in the state, with the addition of some of our oldest vines at Quintessence vineyard. Cabernet sauvignon planted in 1998 at Ciel du Cheval on Red Mountain provides mouth-filling flavors of complex, sweet fruit, and spice. Cabernet sauvignon from Klipsun contributes intense dark fruit with lifted aromatics and brings substantial weight and volume to the palate. The old, gnarled vines from these blocks are more self-regulating in the vineyard, offering lighter crops, smaller berries and extremely concentrated aromatics and flavors. The fruit from Quintessence adds depth and dimension to the finished wine. Our job in the cellar is to find the fulcrum of extraction to celebrate these magnificent qualities and avoid pushing too far which can lead to a wine that is unapproachable and hard.

2021 Water Witch
In 2012 we partnered with Quintessence Vineyards to plant a 13.6-acre block on the south slope of Red Mountain. We worked together with the Quintessence team to transform the site into a world-class vineyard, sparing no expense in the design and development. Through meticulous site, varietal, and clone selection, as well as targeted vine density and orientation, we have been able to create a singular wine unique to the Mark Ryan lineup and Red Mountain AVA. We focus on highlighting the fantastic character and quality that make this block unique. By utilizing cooler fermentation temperatures and slightly longer skin contact time we can coax the inherent depth and power from the fruit while maintaining more delicate and nuanced aromas and flavors.
