216 Miles to Go: From Red Mountain to Woodinville
The journey of 216 Miles to Go begins in 1999 when Mark McNeilly started making friends in the growing wine community of Woodinville. A vineyard owner on Red Mountain took a chance in offering an aspiring winemaker some of his most coveted Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and Mark hit the road in his 1987 Chevy Astro van, traveling the 216 miles from Woodinville to the vineyards in eastern Washington.
Over two decades later, the voyage continues. The 216 Miles to Go label encapsulates essence of this odyssey – the roots tracing back to those humble beginnings crisscrossing the state to Red Mountain vineyards, and the vision to continue elevating Washington wines.
Winemaking Notes
The 2022 216 Miles To Go Cabernet Sauvignon blends the opulent, rich, and dark fruit characters of Phinny Hill vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, with the intense, dramatic and expansive qualities of Quintessence vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA. The 2022 vintage was cooler that 2021. The cooler weather allowed the grapes to develop slowly, leading to fantastic balance between sugar, acid, and flavor development. Late summer heat, and one of the warmest Octobers on record, helped produce wines with exceptional balance, depth, and purity.
